My First Two Weeks Of Working At PDQ

The first two weeks of my intenship at PDQ were a complete mixture of nervousness, nail biting and finaly excitment after completing one of my fist major tasks since i started working.

The fist major assignment wheere my Public Relations skills and knowledge were put to task was making call downs to invite and R.S.V.P to the media to an immediate press conference held by the Petaling Jaya Residence Association , of which oe of PDQ Company leader is an active board member of the group, so PDQ company organised the press conference on probnosis case, the main aim of the press conference was to inform the media.

Prior to making the call downs, i met briefly with the Public Relations Senior Accountant officer, where she game a quick brifieng on how and what to speak to the media on the phone.

The first point she emphasised was confidence on the phone, she advised to avoid giving answers like "i dont know" when talking to the media, rather i should transfer call to her incase of any inquiry by the media which i dont know.

Secondly she stated that i should be precise and brief when talking to the media on the phone, moreover i should sound knowledgeable when talking.

I went ahead with the call downs, i encountered a few problems mainly in pronouncing names which were mainly in chinese and in some media the reception was in the local language, so i had to ask to be adressed in Engslish which was not always the case.

In the mist of nervousnes and confusion, my boss came by to check my call downs progress which was not impressive at all, so she seized the initiative to make the call downs herself, much to my disappointment of failure to complete what looked like a simple task.

The boss, completed the call downs and later on we had to attend the press conference.

During  the press conference , as the media kept on coming in, i noticed that my boss kept on welcoming anyone from the media with a broad smile:
she exchanged business cards with media to establish contact
I was tasked with serving the media with snacks as they were still waiting for the press conference to begin and  later on i had to distribute press releases to the media
Lastly my boss constantly reminded the media about the press conference proceedings, mainly on what has caused a delay and possibly when it will begin.

Finally after a lenghty and intresting press conference, we had to clean up the conference room and report back to work.

With my confidence slowly creeping in, the boss asked me on what i have learnt or observed at the conference which i simply outlined to her and i got the knod.

from that day i felt relaxed and eager to learn, from now on working at PDQ felt like home, no more nail biting and constant viewing of the clock.

First impression of PDQ management company

I finished my PR 393 at PDQ Management, a company thta operates as a public relations consultants to varoius clients, though the company prides or describes itself as a fully  intergrated marketing communications company.

The fist week of my intenship i was  a bit low in confidence mainly because of the daily long distance and difficulties in getting familiar to a working environment and  locating PDQ Company since i was not familiar with Petaling Jaya surroundings, moreover the language barrier, infact  most local taxi driver drivers do not speak English, so for the first week i had to use a map to reach work.

Because of the above complications, i was late for work the first day.

Upon arrival at PDQ, i received a warm welcome by the reception staff, within a few minutes i was introduced to my intenship boss whom io will be working under.

After a brief discussion with my intenship boss, i felt at home, later on she took me on a brief company tour to introduce me around to the company staff and other company divisions.

To my suprise, after being inroduced to the company, my intenship boss showed me a stack of English newspapers of which i had to start doing the media monitoring for the company's clients, this task served as an eye opener for what i should expect the public relations for the next couple of weeks.

The most notable thing with PDQ Management is the company is like a family, the Public Relations and The Event management groups work hand in hand hence they share the same place in the company. Lastly during lunch break we all mix tohether for laughs and jokes , and this creates a strong bond between the staff.
